Timor Leste Accommodation Tropical Hotel Traveller Feedback
Tropical Hotel
Address: Bidau Lecidere, Dili view mapThe Tropical Hotel is located in CBD, next to the ANZ bank and Kamanak Supermarket approximately 8 km from the airport. Relax in the small courtyard or peruse the range of paraphenalia over a buffet lunch or Sunday roast before retiring to the comfort of your private room. The hotel is also located 100 meters from the Harbour where you can take a nice walk or just sit and relax and watch the Timorese go about there daily business. Actually in a very good location for the Budget minded traveller.

The entrance is awful and it's hard to believe that is a hotel.
Extremely simple hotel, as well as the breakfast (not buffet) menu.
Location is good, but not great. Well, Dili is small, so you can take a taxi and go anywhere.
No windows in the room, no hangers in the closet. Very old TV set. Small and extremely useful fridge.
No amenities in the bathroom, except for a soap and toilet paper.
BUT, the staff is very friendly and helpful. In the end, it was an okay stay.
They makeup the room and provided new towels almost everyday.
The (wired) internet was quite confortable! And it was included in the price.
Skype sessions with Brazil and Japan was OK. I could not make call using Facetime, though.
Laundry was included in the price. In the last day, they washed and ironed all my clothes (one week quantity) what made me extremely happy.
For that price, it's completely worth.

No good cleanliness; service is bad; rooms have no windows and are depressing. The only added-value is free laundry (although they are not responsible if they damage anything). Lacks internet access, which is a downside in Dili.
However, compared to other hotels, it is considerably cheaper. It is well placed: one block to the seaside, near to a relatively good supermarket and next to the Xanana Gusmão's Reading Room (which includes cheap internet services - though being very slow).
