Day Trip to Bacau

There is a place called Laho just west of Bacau where silk worms cocoons are unravelled and made into garments. A wide range of plants are for sale here including vanilla and fruit plants.

We recommend seeing the colourful School at Vinelale which is approximately 30 km towards Viqueque, and before that the Japanese caves. In Ossu district a 30 min walk at the highest point where it is cool and there are hilly grasslands.

The trip to TVH Walakarini, Loihunu Sub District, Ossu District

The trip is a great one even without the attractions of TVH Loihunu.

The coast road to Bacau is packed with wonderful views and places you will want to explore.

You go over a bridge over a very nice gorge, which is worth exploring.

The journey from Bacau is approximately one and half hours and about 70km. There are some relatively poor sections of road where your average speed will be around 15km per hour, but these are short and easy for a normal 4WD vehicle. The last 700 m is up a poorly kept dirt road, but again easy for a normal 4WD vehicle. Mostly you will be able to drive at around 40-50km per hr.

Directions

After Bacau Airport and before Bacau you come to a large petrol station, where you can get cold drinks. You go South to go to Vinelale (KM Stones VLL), - about 30km. To visit Bacau it is the road to the North East. There is a good restaurant before you hit Bacau town called "Benfica" on your left.

Approximately 30km from Bacau you come to a T junction and there turn right to Ossu/Viqueque, where the KM stones show distance to OSSU, then Viqueque. (Vinelale is 1km left at this point) The turnoff for TVH is approximately 10km before Viqueque and clearly marked. Total journey from Dili is about 190km.
